No School in Avon Monday; 9/11 Service at the Fire House; Meetings; and High School Sports

Welcome back after a hopefully restful weekend.       

A lot is happening in Avon this week that you might want to know about.

There is no school in Avon on Monday because the teachers have their convocation and an in-service day, according to the school calendar. 

On Tuesday, you might want to check out the Planning and Zoning Commission meeting if you're interested in Ensign Bickford's application for an earth removal permit. The meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. in the Selectmen's Chamber at Avon Town Hall, building 1 at 60 West Main St. 

In honor of 9/11 on Wednesday, the Avon Volunteer Fire Department is hosting its annual memorial service at the Company 1 fire station at 25 Darling Dr. at 8:30 a.m.

The Avon Town Council meets on Thursday, Sept. 12 at 7:30 p.m. in the Selectmen's Chamber. 

On Sept. 10, the Avon High School girls varsity soccer team plays Granby at 4 p.m. at Fisher Meadow and the girls varsity volleyball team plays Lewis Mills at the high school at 5:30 p.m. Boys and girls cross country will race Coventry, East Granby and Bolton at 4:15 p.m. and 4:45 p.m., respectively on Sept. 11. at Fisher Meadow. The varsity football team takes on Canton at 4:30 p.m. at Avon High on Thursday, Sept. 12. For Avon's full sports schedules this fall, visit the CIAC website.
