6 Can't Miss Events This Weekend [UPDATED]

POW/MIA Recognition Day

The day will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 20, with POW-MIA flag raising and Color Guard. A POW-MIA talk led by Bill Newman and Jim Hutton of VFW Post 3272 will take place at 11:15 a.m.

After the ceremony, the community is invited to view the Vietnam War exhibit in the local history room and talk to the veterans.

Discover Hartford Bicycle Tour

The Discover Hartford Bicycle Tour will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, starting at Bushnell Park in Hartford. The sixth annual tour will take place in conjunction with Hartford’s Envisionfest, a celebration of Hartford’s arts, food and culture.

Avon Day

Avon Day will feature the Tastes of Avon food section, Farmington Valley YMCA's obstacle course, train rides, RE/MAX hot air balloon rides, booths manned by local businesses and organizations, and Ski Sundown's snow sports expos. The event closes with an Avon Day favorite, the annual pie-eating contest.

More than 50 artists will showcase their wares and talent at the Avon Art Fair, taking place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 21 and 22, at the Old Avon Village Marketplace. Look for the big rocking chair!

Vietnam War Commemoration Exhibit and Talk with Vets

A Vietnam veteran from Avon will be at the Avon Public Library exhibit from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21. The public may view artifacts and maps from the Vietnam War at the Avon Public Library now through October 31.

Autumn Light Studio & Gallery's Open Juried Art Show

From 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, guests may attend Autumn Light Studio and Gallery’s art show and talk with the artists. Light refreshments will be served.
