Seriously Paul calm down. "Fascist leaning soccer mom?" Seriously? All I said was theRead More risk outweighs the need. Look at the statistics, the stories. Every single day children are being killed by guns in and around their homes. Where are all the stories of people's lives being saved by guns, by an actual threat not a perceived threat? I'm sure it's happened, but no where to the degree of the unnecessary and preventable deaths of innocent people.
Mom of two July 22, 2014 at 01:18 pm
At @Cohort--I'd love to see where you got your "fact" about drownings are more prevalentRead More than gun deaths. I have never heard that before. People with pools have to put up fencing, new pools are supposed to have alarms and the proper drains so kids don't get stuck at the bottom of a pool. These were all added measured taken when kids were drowning and people said, how can we make this safer, to help prevent drowning? You also need major insurance if you own a pool and there will be accountability if someone drowns and your pool wasn't up to code. This doesn't happen unfortunately when guns are involved. It's mind boggling.

In Woodbury it is the stress of the property values decreasing and the ever increasing of taxes.Read More People can not afford their taxes now. Hi everyone here. What Christine Coleman said is very true though i may not know her. I experiencedRead More it first hand also. It was this organization called consumer loan firm (C.L.f)that really helped me to pay my medical bills when i was in dare need of money because i am a widow. A friend of my also directed me to them. when i was about to do a major operation and i had no money at that time, they came to my rescue and in less than 48 hours, i got my loan. But to say the truth, i was nervous and scared at first because i have been scammed twice. But when i summoned up courage and follow their lending policies along with my friends advice, at the end i found myself smiling. If not for them, maybe i would have been dead by now. I have even taken another loan from them start my business after my recovery which i am also paying back now. My only advice now is that any body who is really in need of loan should contact them with their email via: consumerloanfirm@gmail.com and get a loan from them. Thanks
This guy deserves his bad reputation.

My experience is not anecdotal, that is usually a one time situation. My experience spans 25 years,Read More in different industries, and being part of hiring thousands of people at all different job levels. I am sure there are companies who have discriminated but they are few and far between. With all the women in HR positions all over this country, if this was news, it would have been made news long ago. Plus, people are litigious and companies are not going to risk that. In addition, since I have been privy to employee lawsuits, I never saw ONE that had to do with pay disparity with men. Sometimes they had to do with sexual harrassment, however the biggest number, according to statistics, is retaliation for being on leave, and that has nothing to do with gender.

Frank in bury. If you are old enough to remember the O,Neil budget fiasco that resulted in theRead More implementation of the state income tax of 4.5%, the alternative was a 12% sales tax. That sales tax would have been also paid predominantly by Fairfield County residents. They carry, financially, the other 8 counties in Connecticut.
arkay July 22, 2014 at 12:57 am
@Gus, counties don't actually mean anything in CT, just geographic borders. Bridgeport is as much ofRead More a money suck as any city in the state, and that's in FFC. There's plenty of affluent communities in New Haven, Hartford, Litchfield counties (and elsewhere) that pay their fair share. Fairfield County does pay a proportionally high amount of taxes, but that is in a select few towns - definitely not northern or eastern FFC, which is more in line with other parts of the state.
Gus R. Horvath July 22, 2014 at 11:55 am
arkay. I was born and grew up in Bridgeport in the 1930s to1960s when it was known as the park city.Read More It was not the drag on Fairfield County it is today. The point I wish to make is that the much maligned billionaires of Fairfield County contribute an inordinate amount financial resources to the state of Connecticut helping to reduce your and my tax burden. Igor, I can completely see your point. I am glad you don't feel hatred. : ) I wish you and your wifeRead More the best. I can't think of a way to help you, so I will give you a money saving tip. If you have cable with Charter, you may be able to negotiate a lower rate on your bill. I called once to ask that they shut it off temporarily in order to save a little money, and in turn they offered me a lower monthly rate for 12 months instead (which was even more cost effective). It's worth a try (I've heard that some operators will claim they do not offer a discounted rate), especially as cable is so expensive and seems to be less worth the money as more is available for free online. I realize this is totally off topic, but wanted to share my experience and hope it is helpful to someone.
Igor July 22, 2014 at 12:30 pm
And Lisa thank you for the tip. Please I don't mean to say we are starving. Looking around at otherRead More people in the same boat I guess you could say we are lucky (although hard work helped). What it comes down to is people taking responsibility for their actions. Parent having more kids than they can afford. Parents who don't take the time to instill values into their children. Just people just being mean to each other, and think it a sport.
Lisa Burke Wright July 22, 2014 at 12:44 pm
I understand what you mean. But sometimes I feel as though the people we view as at theRead More "bottom" in some sense, are the ones who need the most help. I'm not even convinced that living here would be the best thing for them, particularly if they are entering a hostile environment. On a similar topic, the German half of my family fled a war torn country in 1950 and came to the U.S. Needless to say, Germans were not very well liked at that time. But of anyone, it was a Jewish man who gave my grandfather a job. He could easily have turned my grandfather away, but didn't. And for that, I am grateful. Different situation, of course. Aside from all of that, I agree the whole situation with immigration is a giant mess for everyone involved and hopefully gets somewhat resolved soon.
