Police: Second Man Arrested in Avon Home Invasion Knew the Victims

Police announced Monday that they arrested the second man they say forced entry into a Jackson Street home in December and demanded money at gunpoint.

After obtaining an arrest warrant for Alex Molon, 19, on March 4, police located him at his Harwinton home on St. Patrick's Day and made the arrest at 10:07 a.m. He was taken into custody and held on a $500,000 bond.

Molon, of 85 Hill Rd., came up with the plan to rob the Jackson Street house and knew the occupants, police said.

“It was not random," Avon police Lt. Kelly Walsh said. "He had been in the residence prior to the incident.”

Police said that Molon is friends with Michael Cyr, 21, of Harwinton, who was arrested in January in connection to the home invasion. When police searched Cyr's home, they discovered two semi-automatic two-toned handguns, Walsh said. The guns matched the description the victims gave police of the weapons two masked men displayed during the residential armed robbery.

Molon and Cyr ordered two occupants of the house and their guest to the floor at gunpoint and stole two purses on Dec. 18, police said.

Police have not released information on why the two men targeted the house, but the Hartford Courant reported that the men expected to find drugs.

The case is closed and police don't expect any further arrests, according to Walsh.

Molon's arrest follows a lengthy investigation. Avon detectives followed multiple anonymous tips, conducted several interviews and obtained phone and internet records, Walsh confirmed.

Molon was charged with conspiracy to commit home invasion, conspiracy to commit fourth-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery, home invasion, fourth-degree larceny and first-degree robbery.

He was scheduled to appear in Hartford Superior Court on Monday.
