Pick & Mix Opens in Avon Village Marketplace

West Hartford's Won Joo and wife own the Korean-style restaurants.

A popular West Hartford family-owned Korean restaurant has expanded to Avon on the Route 44 corridor.

Avon Village Marketplace notified patrons signed up for its email newsletter on Monday that Pick & Mix has opened in the historical shopping plaza. The restaurant is located where Good 2 Go was previously, right next to the 51 East shops.

Owner Won Joo and his wife have lived in West Hartford for about 15 years, opening the original Pick & Mix on Farmington Avenue in 2010. The family also owns Silk Nails salons located in Unionville, Farmington, Granby and West Hartford.

Pick & Mix is "a fresh take on traditional Korean fare," according to the restaurant's website. Customers "pick" the ingredients and employees "mix it up fresh" in a bibimbap dish," which means "mixed meal," the website states.

"Customers can design their own dish after choosing the base of rice or noodles, a variety of fresh vegetables, and then protein of egg, beef, chicken, or tofu. Your custom creation is then sauteed together in a matter of minutes, and the finishing touch of your choice of sauce is added," the restaurant description states on the business website. "Feeling adventurous? Try our soy lemon sauce! Or if you like things kicked up a notch, finish your bibimbap with a spicy chili paste. When you create your own dish, the possibilities are endless!"

The menu also includes options like "bulgogi, spicy pork, crispy chicken wings, fried or steamed dumplings, soups and low fat frozen yogurt."

In addition to Avon, Pick & Mix plans to open a location in Glastonbury in the Stop & Shop plaza.
