Help Gifts of Love Furnish Its New Home

For many years, Gifts of Love has provided furniture and other necessary items to struggling families in the Farmington Valley and Greater Hartford area.

Now the non-profit needs your help as it prepares to move into 34 East Main St. once it purchases the building next week.

"We need furniture for our office space," Gifts of Love spokesperson Carolyn McGrattan said, in particular desks for the interns.

Used furniture is welcome.

The move under one roof will allow for more on-site storage for items like furniture. Avon Self Storage currently provides storage space for Gifts of Love.

The non-profit's furniture program, which collects donated furniture for clients, has a waiting list, McGrattan said.

Gifts of Love is launching a Families Helping Families campaign to encourage local families to donate funds or needed items like furniture.

Local businesses already donate to Gifts of Love. Tom Wholley of Connecticut Mattress in Avon donated 75 twin and full mattress box spring sets.

"Everybody can relate to a family in a town," McGrattan said. "Something different in each of our programs speaks to somebody."

For more information on how to donate furniture for the new building or the furniture program, contact McGrattan at 869-676-2323, ext. 205.
