Mother's Day Guide: Find Mom the Perfect Plant Before Avon's Enchanted Gardens Closes

After 10 years of tending to other people's gardens, Avon resident Linda Jensen is planning on closing her Enchanted Gardens, LLC business within the next month.

"It's just my hobby. It became my livelihood," she said.

But before she closes, she's hosting her first ever plant sale at her 25 Orchard St. home. Plants will range from $3 to $40 and she said there will be plenty of options to choose from if you are looking for a Mother's Day gift for Mom.

"I always look for things that are unusual," Jensen said of how she chooses which plants to grow.

Lilacs are one of her favorite flower plants to grow.

"They usually open for Mother's Day weekend," she said.

Sedum Autumn Joy is another favorite and is easy to grow, she said. You can start dividing them and cutting them back in the spring, she said. From there, Jensen said they "do their thing."

"The color morphs to deep rose in the fall," Jensen said. "The flowers hold up long into winter."

When gardening for other people, Jensen said yours comes last.

"It'll be nice to come back to my garden being first again," Jensen said.

The plant sale runs Friday, May 10 and Saturday, May 11 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. She will also be selling books, including gardening and cooking books, for 50 cents to $10.
