[Update] Police: Avon High School Student Arrested After Bringing Knife to School

School officials say that no one was in danger.

Avon High School officials found a knife on a student Friday after he "displayed the knife to classmates during the school day," police wrote in an email to Patch.

The 16-year-old was arrested at the high school on April 19 at 1:04 p.m. and charged with possessing a weapon on school grounds.

"School officials confronted the juvenile and located the knife in the student’s possession," Avon police Capt. Jeffrey Blatter wrote to Patch. "The student was cooperative and there was no evidence that the student possessed the knife with violent intentions."

No one was injured in the incident.

“At no time was the safety of any student or the school compromised," Avon Superintendent Gary Mala said, declining to comment further on the incident out of respect for the student's privacy.

After the student was booked and issued a "summons to appear in Juvenile Court," police turned the individual "over to the custody of a parent." The juvenile is scheduled to appear in court on May 3.

The Avon Police Department does not release the names of people under 18 who are arrested.
