Do You Support Avon's Proposed $81.76 Million Budget?

What matters most to you in the budget proposal for 2013-14? Tell us what you think in the comment section!

Avon taxpayers and registered voters shared their opinions Monday about the $81.76 million combined 2013-14 proposal at a Board of Finance public hearing.

Speakers voiced support for full-day kindergarten and building Avon's world language programs, as well as funding road repairs, Avon Volunteer Fire Department needs and other items.

Some told the finance board they thought the budget was too small, while one senior citizen asked for a tax freeze for the elderly. Many asked the finance board to pass the budget through to referendum as is, without reductions.

As proposed, the budget would require a 2.6 percent tax rate increase. The combined proposed total includes requests of about $28.93 million for the town operating, capital improvement, debt services and sewers budgets and $52.8 million for the school board operating budget.

The annual Board of Finance budget workshop is scheduled for Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Avon Senior Center. The board typically votes on the proposal at the end of the workshop, but will have a second workshop the following week if needed.

What do you think? Do you support the budget? What is most important to you in the proposal?
