Avon Lions announce Spring Pediatric Eye Screening schedule

The Avon Lions are partnering with local childcare providers to conduct free pediatric eye screenings.  These screenings use the Pediavison Spot digital camera, which can detect amblyopia, astigmatism, and several other conditions common in eye development.  Strabismus amblyopia, sometimes called lazy-eye, is a condition caused by lack of development of the nerve pathways in the eye.  When detected at an early age, simple corrective action can be taken to facilitate proper growth.

Since 2011, the Avon Lions have screened over 300 children, with 15% referred for further treatment.

Non-Lions are welcome to volunteer!
The equipment is easy to operate, and a child can be screened in mere seconds.  If you are interested in participating in or observing an upcoming screening, please contact Duane Starr at duanes114@comcast.net
