Avon Lions will collect your eyeglasses, cellphones and hearing aids
Every year, the Lions Clubs in Hartford and Litchfield Counties recycle 40,000 eyeglasses for distribution to developing countries and underserved populations in need of eye care. Here are the area locations where you can drop off your eyeglasses:
Stop and Shop, 530 Bushy Hill Rd
Avon Vision Center, 40 Avon Meadow Lane
Connecticut Eye Center, 35 Waterville Rd.
Avon Senior Center, 635 West Avon Rd.
Avon Health Center, 652 West Avon Rd.
Browns Optical, 530 Bushy Hill Rd.
Burke/McLaughlin, 18 West Avon Rd.
Avon Landfill Recycling Shed, Huckleberry Hill Rd.
We also recycle cell phones, which will be reformatted for emergency service and given to shelters, and hearing aids. Collection boxes for these items are at the Stop and Shop, Senior Center and Landfill locations.
